Douglas County prosecutors have filed two new charges against a 28-year-old Lawrence man who faces sexual exploitation charges.

According to court records, chief assistant district attorney Amy McGowan on Wednesday filed one count of electronic solicitation of a child and sexual exploitation of a child against the defendant. In the new charges he’s accused of using a phone or a computer to entice or solicit a person who he believed to be a child to submit to an unlawful sexual act. He’s also accused of enticing or coercing the 13-year-old victim in the case to engage in sexually explicit conduct.

Those two counts are in addition to original charges of sexual exploitation of a child and possessing child pornography. Lawrence police arrested the man March 19.

Police have said the victim in the case was an acquaintance of the defendant, and prosecutors allege the offenses occurred between March 15 and March 19. According to court records, a judge has ordered the man not to return to a Baldwin City address, where the alleged offenses occurred.

Thursday afternoon, the man waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and District Judge Sally Pokorny set a jury trial for July 20. He remains in jail on $100,000 bond.
