25 years ago: Marina proposes move across Clinton Lake

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 11, 1986:

  • Owners of the Clinton Lake Marina were considering moving the facility from its seven-year location at the Bloomington area near the town of Clinton to the Clinton State Park area on the north side of the lake. The marina’s manager expressed his hope that the move would spur private development at Clinton State Park. The cost of floating the 3,600-square-foot marina building across the lake and establishing it at its new site was expected to be between $50,000 and $60,000 and was to be paid for by the marina owners.
  • The Kansas Department of Transportation was calling on drivers to reverse the disturbing trend of increased accidents in work zones. There had been 1,394 accidents in highway construction zones across the state in 1985, compared to 506 in 1982.
  • Career advisors at Kansas University said that the job outlook was “fairly bright” for college seniors. However, placement officials said that although companies were interviewing more students this year, graduates needed to be flexible about their expectations if they wanted to land a job.
