Kansas University sophomore forward Carolyn Davis is one of 34 players who will participate in the USA Basketball Women’s World University Games Team Trials, which run May 22-25 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Invitations to the trials were issued by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee, chaired by Sue Donohoe, NCAA vice president for Div. I women’s basketball.

An All-Big 12 selection, Davis led the Jayhawks with 19.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in 2010-11.

“I feel honored to be categorized as one of the best players in the country,” Davis said. “To possibly represent my country at the World University Games would be a huge accomplishment for me.”

She is the second Jayhawk in the last three years to earn an invitation to the tryouts. Former Jayhawk Danielle McCray (2006-09) was a member of the 2009 USA World University Games team that took gold in Belgrade, Serbia.

Following the selection of the team and/or finalists on May 25, the athletes will return home. Training will resume at the USOTC July 31-Aug. 8, prior to the team’s departure for Shenzhen, China, and the 2011 World University Games.
