A Craigslist posting advertising a baby for sale in Lawrence has been determined to be a hoax.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Troy Squire, emergency dispatchers received calls shortly after 5 p.m. Friday from area residents concerned about a posting on the classified website regarding a baby for sale.

Squire said detectives were contacted about the situation and were able to identify where the posting had originated. The suspect was contacted and the posting was determined to be a hoax.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing. No charges have been filed against the suspect at this point.
