Lawrence Education Association asks district for additional benefits

Negotiators for the Lawrence Education Association requesting some additional benefits Wednesday for the Lawrence school district’s licensed educators during the coming year.

The union, which represents more than 900 educators, formally asked that the district:

• Waive standard fees for enrollment, textbook rentals, extracurricular activities and related supplemental charges for students whose parents are licensed educators.

• Permit the president of the union to work full time on union business, at district expense. Currently, the district pays the full salary of the union president, who continues to work part time as an educator.

• Provide each licensed educator with a printed copy of the Master Agreement, once approved by the union and district administration.

The next negotiating session is set for 5 p.m. May 18 at district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive.
