LHS baseball falls

? The Lawrence High baseball team lost to Blue Springs (Mo.) South, 3-2, on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday.

“The timing of that error wasn’t very good,” Lions coach Brad Stoll said.

The Lions struck out 15 Blue Springs South batters. Starting pitcher Alex Laughlin struck out 12 in five innings. Garrett Cleavinger struck out three.

Lawrence High’s Ross Johnson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Troy Willoughby added an RBI and a stolen base. Matt Sutliffe and Trent Sheppard each went 2-for-3.

“There’s not a better bunch of players to be around,” Stoll said, “and we are going to bounce back and be just fine.”

The Lions (0-3) will play in their home opener at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Shawnee Mission Northwest.
