11:42 a.m. update

The NWS has canceled the severe thunderstorm warning for Douglas and Franklin Counties.

According to the NWS, “radar indicated that the severe thunderstorm that prompted the warning had weakened and was no longer severe.”

However, heavy rain and small hail are still possible. A severe thunderstorm watch is still in effect for Franklin County until 4 p.m.

11:20 update

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until noon for Douglas County and the northern portion of Franklin County.

Many of the counties to the south of Douglas County are under a severe thunderstorm watch.

At 11:12 a.m., the NWS reported that “Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail. This storm was located near Pomona, or 9 miles west of Ottawa moving northeast at 35 mph.”

8 a.m. update

The National Weather Service is forecasting thunderstorms in the area this afternoon and into the evening.

The thunderstorms are expected after 1 p.m., and the forecast warns of potential quarter-size hail and heavy rainfall in Douglas and surrounding counties this evening.
