Journal-World wins 16 awards from Suburban Newspapers of America

The Lawrence Journal-World on Friday won 16 Suburban Newspapers of America Awards for 2010.

The Oakland (Calif.) Press was the only other daily newspaper to win 16 awards in the annual contest.

The Journal-World won three first-place, five second-place and six third-place awards, and two honorable mentions.

First-place honors

• Best Young People’s Coverage for Pulse and Lawrence.com.

• Best Special Section for the annual KU edition.

• Best Headline.

• Best Entertainment-Lifestyle Section for Pulse.

• Best Graphic Artwork supporting news content.

• Best Coverage of Local Business and Economic News.

• Best News Photo.

• Best Editorial Page.

The Journal-World was named SNA’s Newspaper of the Year in its circulation category (30,000 or less) in 2010, 2009, 2007 and 2005, and placed second in 2006.
