Olathe ? Lawrence High’s girls basketball team won’t be trying to run Olathe Northwest out of its own gym at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Instead, coach Nick Wood wants the Lions to slow things down offensively and execute.

“We’ve got all the time in the world,” Wood said.

Just 13 days ago, the Ravens (17-3) beat the Lions (6-14) on Senior Night in the Jungle, 63-47. In that game, the Ravens pushed the tempo and raced to a 16-point lead at halftime.

Floating passes were often intercepted by O-Northwest and converted into easy transition baskets.

Wood said that when he went back and watched the game film, he realized that the Lions were responsible for a lot of the turnovers.

“We were making things easy for them,” Wood said.

O-Northwest sophomore Michaela Crall had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first matchup, so Wood knows that his post players have to box out and seal her off.

On offense, a slower approach will help the Lions get the ball inside to their two primary scorers, seniors TaMiya Green and Emily Peterson.

If his players impose their style on the Ravens, Wood is confident that the seventh-seeded Lions can upend the second-seeded Ravens, even without seniors Rachel Kelly (concussion), Sami Johnson (concussion) and Kelsey Broadwell (mononucleosis).

“That’s why you play the games,” Wood said.
