Lawrence Phenix second at softball tournament

? Lawrence Phenix-Fyler went 5-1 and placed second at the Mid America West “Stop the Clock” girls softball tournament over the weekend.

In pool play, the Phenix beat the Kansas City Titans, 12-4 in five innings; beat the Storm, 5-4; run-ruled the K.C. Rockets, 10-0; and run-ruled the Neosho County Tornados, 10-1.

In bracket play, Lawrence beat the K.C. Vandals, 11-1, but fell to the Kansas Explosion, 6-5, in the championship game. The Explosion scored two in the bottom of the seventh to win it.

For the tournament, Mackenzie O’Brien was 10-for-14 with eight runs and four extra-base hits; Dana Kramer was 9-for-18 with 11 runs and three extra-base hits; Kristen Bell caught five games; and Cori Munoz (12-1) pitched 25 innings.

The Phenix — 20-3 on the season — will play July 8-10 in the USSSA state tournament at Mid America.
