NWS issues Thursday heat advisory for Douglas County, temperatures expected to reach triple digits Thursday through Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for several counties in northeast Kansas. The advisory is in effect Thursday, from noon until 8 p.m. The excessive heat watch issued earlier today is now in effect from Friday morning to Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, a heat advisory means that high temperatures are expected, and an excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of high temperatures is expected.

Counties affected by the advisory include:

  • Anderson
  • Brown
  • Douglas
  • Franklin
  • Jackson
  • Jefferson
  • Nemaha
  • Osage
  • Shawnee

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for most of northeast Kansas, including Douglas County. The watch goes into effect Thursday afternoon and is expected to end Saturday evening.

During that time, temperatures will range from the high 90s to low 100s, with heat index values of 104-108 degrees, according to the NWS.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation in which heat-related illnesses are possible.
