A 54-year-old rural Lawrence man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon after an accident on the Farmers Turnpike involving his moped.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Buchholz said Donald Hattabaugh was injured when his eastbound moped wrecked at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on County Road 438 northwest of Lawrence.

An LMH spokeswoman said Hattabaugh was treated and later released.

Sheriff’s officers are still investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, Buchholz said.
