Two people taken to hospital after crash near Perry Lake

Two Jefferson County residents were taken to Topeka hospitals Friday morning after a two-vehicle accident near Ozawkie on Kansas Highway 92, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

According to the accident report, the driver of an eastbound truck attempted to pass an eastbound 2006 Lexus that was attempting to turn left into a private drive. The truck sideswiped the car.

The truck’s driver, 64-year-old Leo K. Merando Jr. of Valley Falls was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Topeka with a possible injury. The car’s driver, Donna L. Huffman, 42, Ozawkie, was injured and taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Healthcare in Topeka.

As of Friday afternoon troopers said it was unknown if either driver wore a seat belt. The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. about 7 miles west of Oskaloosa.

Conditions for the two patients were not available Friday night.
