Free throw competition: As part of a men’s health fair, Lawrence Memorial Hospital will host a free-throw competition 1-5 p.m. June 26 at Allen Fieldhouse.

There will be two different competitions: one for individuals and one for teams of four.

Those in the individual competition will have five minutes to complete 30 shots; those in the team competition will have each team member shoot 20 shots.

Registration fee is $25.

LHS wrestling camp: Lawrence High will host a summer wrestling camp Monday-Wednesday at LHS. There will be two sessions (morning and afternoon) daily and is for grades 1-12. For more information, email randy@sunflowerkidswrestling.com.

Football camp: The Free State High and Lawrence High youth football camp (for grades 3-8) will run June 27-29 at FSHS. Lawrence swim team and lessons: Ad Astra Area Aquatics is a competitive year-round swim team that offers practices for ages 6-18 throughout the week. AAAA is always accepting new members. For information, visit adastraareaaquatics.org or call Patrick at 331-6940.

Swim academy: Registration is open for the Aquahawk Swim Academy swim-lesson program. The Aquahawk Swim Academy is designed to introduce new and beginner swimmers to the water, teach basic water safety and swimming skills to swim for fun or competitively. LHS boys basketball workouts: Lawrence High’s boys basketball workouts will be held 2:30-4 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 6-July 13, at Lawrence High. KU soccer camps: The Kansas University Soccer girls residential and girls team camp has two sessions. Session I is from July 15-18, all day (grades 4-12). Henrickson camps: Applications are being accepted for the 2011 Bonnie Henrickson Basketball Camps. There are two remaining camps: the Jayhawk Jamboree (June 23 or 25) for teams; and the Junior Jayhawk Camp (June 27-30) for girls and boys in grades 1-5. LHS fall sports: The deadline for turning in required forms for participation in fall 2011 sports at Lawrence High is 3:30 p.m. Aug. 11 to the LHS Athletic Office. The first day of fall sports is Aug. 15. Forms may be picked up at Lawrence High or downloaded at www.lhs.usd497.org.

Phenix looking for coaches: The Lawrence Phenix softball organization is looking for coaches. The organization will be holding tryouts at the end of July and is looking to add first-year 10U and 16U teams.

The primary focus of coaches for these age groups would be player development. Prior coaching experience is a plus, but new coaches who have a strong desire to teach will be considered. Coaches will have the full support of the Phenix organization/fundraising and all coaches within the organization.

Horsethief Run scheduled: The annual Horsethief 5K Run, a fundraiser for Eudora High’s cross country team, will be held at 7:30 a.m. on July 9. LAGA City tournament registration: The Lawrence Amateur Golf Association City Tournament is scheduled for July 23 at Eagle Bend and July 24 at Lawrence Country Club. Registration forms are available at the local golf course pro shops and at Golf USA. Cost is $125. Field is limited to first 100 players to register. Four divisions: men, women, seniors (50 and over) and super seniors (60 and over). Each tournament will have championship flights and flights for higher-handicap players.

KU baseball camp: The Jayhawk Baseball Super Skills Camp will be held from 1-5 p.m. June 27 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 28-30 at Hoglund Ballpark at KU for ages 9-12. Lunch will be provided all three days. For more information, contact the KU baseball office at 864-7907.

KU baseball camp: The KU Baseball All-Star Camp for ages 13-18 will be held July 28-31 Hoglund Ballpark at KU. It ncludes daily instructional sessions, scrimmage games, team concept and much more. Fall leagues: The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is taking team registration for fall adult softball and kickball. The registration deadline is July 8, but register by June 29 and receive a discount on your registration fee. For information, call 832-7920 or log on to www.lprd.org.

Phenix-Fyler win tournament: The 18U Phenix-Fyler softball team won the 13-team Mid America West Father’s Day Classic last weekend in Shawnee. The Phenix finished the tournament 7-0 and qualified for nationals in July.

The team went 4-0 in pool play, defeating KC Ice, 9-0; Flint Hill Wind, 4-3; Clay Center, 4-2; and KC Impact, 13-5.

In bracket play, the Phenix defeated Springfield (Mo.), 10-0, run rule; Nothern Missouri Phantoms, 4-1; Flint Hills Wind, 8-7 (championship game).

Shelley Prost (6-0) got the win in the semifinal game. Cori Munoz (8-1) earned the win in the final.

The tournament was marked by outstanding hitting, aggressive base running and good defense by the Phenix. The team is 15-2, including two tournament championships. This weekend the Phenix will be back in K.C.

Members of the Phenix are Kristen Bell, Sami Buffalomeat, Meagan Dexter, Jamie Jarrett, Dana Kramer, Jamie Morgison, Cori Munoz, Mackenzie O’Brien, Maddie Potvin, Racheal Potvin, Shelley Prost and Megan Wilson. Coaches are Randy Fyler, Joe Munoz and Steve Serratte.
