40 years ago: Three motorcyclists involved in weekend accidents

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 21, 1971:

  • A high-rise housing project for the elderly was continuing its progress toward the construction phase. The complex of low-rent living quarters, to be located at 17th and Massachusetts, had reached the end of the planning phase with the city commissions’s execution of the annual contribution contract for the project. Construction of the housing complex was still facing opposition from area residents, who were objecting to the size of the proposed seven-story building.
  • Of the seven vehicular accidents that had occurred over a recent weekend, three had involved motorcycles. Of the three motorcyclists in the unrelated accidents, one had been treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released, while the other two were still hospitalized, one with a compound leg fracture and a cerebral concussion, the other with a dislocated hip and various cuts.
