Lawrence-Douglas County League of Women Voters to hold public forum June 25

Lawrence-Douglas County League of Women Voters will kick off a membership drive with a public forum Saturday.

The group plans to discuss the role of the federal government in public education, campaign finance, Kansas tax policies, redistricting based on 2010 Census data and the recent Kansas law on registering new voters that requires a photo ID to vote.

“We believe in participating in public policy decisions, but first you have to know and understand the issues,” said Carrie Lindsey, the chapter’s membership chair.

Men and women are invited to the forum from 10 a.m. to noon at Lawrence Fire Station No. 5 on the southeast corner of 19th and Iowa streets.
