Woman owes $42K in unpaid parking tickets

? Topeka officials say a woman owes more than $42,000 in unpaid parking tickets, topping a list of the city’s most extreme parking violators.

A public works official told the City Council last week collection agencies are trying to recover about $650,000 in unpaid parking fines. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the top offender owes $42,300.

Also on the list is a former part-time municipal court judge who is listed at $5,880. But that person says he disputes the amount owed and believes the issue can be resolved.

The top 15 violators on the list, provided to the newspaper under the Kansas Open Records Act, owe a total of more than $175,000.

Council members are expected to consider a proposal to authorize “boots” to immobilize vehicles with three or more unpaid tickets.
