3 appointed to replace Kansas Parole Board

? The Kansas corrections secretary has appointed three agency employees to handle the duties of the Kansas Parole Board.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Secretary Ray Roberts will handle creation of the in-house Prison Review Board at the Kansas Department of Corrections to replace the Kansas Parole Board. The board is being eliminated July 1.

The three review board members Roberts named are Dave Riggin, the corrections department’s inmate classification director, who will serve as chairman; Jonathan Ogletree, coordinator of cognitive behavioral services at Lansing Correctional Facility; and Kathleen Graves, the agency’s parole services manager.

The decision raised concern among lawmakers and families of crime victims, who were skeptical about KDOC controlling day-to-day incarceration decisions of inmates and holding power to determine when those individuals were released on parole.
