Army Corps to withhold more water from Kansas River by decreasing flow at Tuttle Creek Reservoir

Goal is to keep water out of Missouri River

? The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to decrease the amount of water flowing out of Tuttle Creek Reservoir in Manhattan.

The corps says high water levels on the Missouri River mean it will reduce outflows to 200 cubic feet per second by Friday. The normal outflow is around 2,000 cfs.

Brian McNulty, operating engineer at the reservoir, says the higher water will close some boat docks. He tells the Manhattan Mercury that if the water gets high enough, some campsites will be closed.

The reservoir’s current elevation was about 1,083 feet, about 8.5 feet above normal. Without more rain, the lake is expected to rise a foot every 10 to 14 days, causing lake levels 15 feet higher than normal by the end of the summer.
