Glenda Overstreet is new leader of Kansas NAACP

? The Kansas chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has a new president.

The NAACP’s state chapter says Glenda Overstreet is its new leader. She’s been the Kansas chapter’s first vice president and president of the Topeka chapter.

She replaces Kevin Myles, who’s been named a regional director by the NAACP.

The Kansas NAACP has 19 branches and more than 2,000 members. Overstreet says she wants to increase membership, work on economic issues and ensure that local and state boards and commissions have diverse memberships.

The NAACP’s state chapter is a vocal opponent of new laws that will require voters to show photo identification at the polls and people to provide proof of citizenship when they register to vote for the first time.
