Some big-time reality TV producers are coming to Lawrence, looking for some undiscovered talent who could make it big.

“There’s always an enormous amount of people who are very talented but never got the chance,” said Matt Antrim, casting director for A&E’s new reality program “Road Show.” Antrim and his crew will try to give that chance to performers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.

Antrim, who grew up in Lee’s Summit, Mo., and spent a year at Kansas University, said performers of any type are welcome. Antrim said he expects comedians, singers, musicians and actors to show up Saturday. They’ll all be given 30 to 60 seconds to impress the casting directors.

The plan is to select several of the performers and follow up later in the week, learning more about the chosen ones, who could later get on the show.

The castings aim to “give an opportunity to people in smaller communities,” Antrim said, and the show will also head to Huntington, W.V., looking for the next star.

A few rules, though: No animals, weapons or knife juggling, and participants must be at least 16 years of age, Antrim said.
