Douglas County prosecutors have filed a felony charge of criminal damage to property against an 18-year-old Eudora man who is accused of spray-painting the artificial turf and other objects at the new Eudora District Stadium.

Spencer Travis Board made a first appearance in court Thursday, and a judge scheduled his next appearance for Aug. 24. Prosecutors filed the criminal damage count Wednesday after Eudora police arrested Board on July 14.

He had posted $2,500 bond that day.

Prosecutors allege that on July 7 he caused more than $25,000 in damage to the $2 million stadium that opened last fall on the Eudora High School campus, 2203 Church St. Vandals damaged turf, a concession stand, concession stand light cover lenses, the track and restroom entrances.

Police also detained two juvenile suspects July 14, but prosecutors said Thursday they hadn’t yet been charged.

School district officials said they expect repairs to exceed $100,000, but they are working on a way to fix the damage in the short-term to allow games to be played there in the fall.

Board is listed as a 2011 Eudora High School graduate. If convicted of the felony count, he could face from 11 months to 34 months in prison, although he likely would be eligible for probation, unless he has a significant criminal history, according to state sentencing guidelines.
