40 years ago: Management staff for new Kresge warehouse to arrive by September

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 25, 1971:

  • The manager and operating personnel for the new Kresge distribution center were due to arrive in Lawrence within the next two months. R. D. Jacob had been named manager for the warehouse facility, which was still under construction in northwest Lawrence. Jacob and other members of the management team were not taking employment applications for the center until after Sept. 15. According to the on-site supervisor, the $7 million structure was about 75 per cent finished and was expected to be completed by Dec. 31.
  • Kansas horse-related events were being affected by fears of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis (VEE) which was affecting movement of horses across state lines. Horses were quarantined in several southern states because of the disease, which was fatal about 50 per cent of the time in horses. Several shows which had been going to feature horses from Texas and Oklahoma had been canceled.
