Thelma Hemphill Evans celebrates her 101st birthday on Sunday. She has been a lifelong resident of Lawrence. She was married to David Houston Evans. Thelma and David celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 1984. Thelma’s parents owned the Hemphill Land & Investment Company. The Evanses had auto supply stores in Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan and Kansas City. Both the Evans and Hemphill families date back to early days of Lawrence. David’s grandfather was a survivor of Quantrill’s Raid. Thelma resides at Brandon Woods.

Kristal Barnes and Arsenio Criss, both of Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Kamiyah LeannA Dawn Criss, on July 2, 2011, Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Her maternal grandparents are Virginia and Harold Barnes, Lawrence; and her paternal grandparents are Flora Taylor, Lawrence, and Clyde Criss.
