Police investigating reported strong-armed robbery near Seventh and Michigan streets

Police have found a man in Leavenworth who is a suspect in what was originally reported as a strong-armed robbery that occurred Wednesday morning near Seventh and Michigan streets in Lawrence.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said police were called at 11:20 a.m. after a 22-year-old Lawrence man alleged he met a Leavenworth man at a pre-arranged location about the possible sale of a cellphone.

“The Leavenworth man took off running with the phone after obtaining it without force or threat,” Sarna said. “The suspect got into a waiting vehicle and fled the scene. The victim returned home to call police.”

No one had been arrested as of Wednesday afternoon, and Sarna said police would forward a copy of the report to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for a decision about whether to file charges.
