From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 12, 1986:

• Nearly $40 million worth of construction projects had been planned for Kansas University, with bids planned for fall and early winter. “This will be the most construction activity this campus has ever seen,” said Allen Wiechert, KU’s director of facilities planning. The projects included a new science library to be built on the south slope behind Hoch Auditorium; a new human development center to be located east of Haworth Hall; renovations of Snow Hall and the Kansas Union; and a $300,000 renovation of an old fraternity house at 1120 W. 11th to provide a new home for KU’s Audio Reader Network. The building, which once had housed the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, had been used for storage in recent years. The Audio Reader Network had outgrown their old home in Sudler House, which it shared with KU’s office of architectural services.
• July was not even half over, but local meteorologists were already saying that there had been “quite enough” rain for the month. The official total for the month so far was 7.94 inches, with the latest rain having fallen in the early morning today.
