From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 6, 1911:

• “The Eagles’ new home at the corner of Warren and New Hampshire streets has been completed and the lodge has taken possession of the building and is occupying it. The members are very proud of their home and are justly so. They have been working for this for a long time and now that their work has been completed they have one of the finest club houses in Lawrence.”
• “A light rain came as a most welcome visitor last night after the excessive heat of yesterday when the thermometer reached 107, the highest point since the extreme heat of 1901 when on July 26 the temperature reached 108. Rain began to fall about 1 o’clock this morning but it was only for a light shower but it cooled things off and made it possible to sleep better last night than people have been able to for some time.”
• “‘Uncle Jim’ Edmondson is dead. ‘Uncle Jim’ will be remembered by the old K.U. football players and followers as one of the most ardent supporters of the game that K.U. ever knew. He formerly did shoe repairing in a little shop in the 900 block on Massachusetts street and it was he who put the cleats on the boys’ shoes and did their repairing. Several years ago he was compelled to give up his work because of illness and has been an invalid ever since.”
