Kansas University’s athletic department ranked 72nd of 284 teams overall — last of all Big 12 schools — in the final Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings for the 2010-11 school year.

The Directors Cup assesses points for all sports and ranks all schools Nos. 1 to 263.

Texas A&M, which accumulated 1,090.5 points, placed eighth to lead all Big 12 schools, followed by Oklahoma (No. 10, 1,064.75), Texas (No. 12, 996.75), Oklahoma State (No. 32, 635.5), Nebraska (No. 33, 634), Baylor (No. 35, 623.75), Missouri (No. 41, 535.8), Texas Tech (No. 48, 465.5), Kansas State (No. 58, 352.25), Iowa State (No. 60, 348.8), Colorado (No. 66, 315.5) and KU (No. 72, 265.5).

KU finished with more points than 11 schools in power conferences — the ones that net automatic berths in BCS bowl games (Big 12, ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-10, SEC). Mississippi State placed 79th overall with 237 points, followed by South Florida (No. 86, 208), St. John’s (No. 94, 185), Marquette (No. 96, 177.0), Providence (No. 113, 150.5), Pittsburgh (No. 123, 135), Washington State (No. 135, 118.5), DePaul (No. 140, 114), Cincinnati (No. 150, 100), Rutgers (No. 158, 97) and Seton Hall (No. 238, 25). Of those schools, Marquette, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Providence and DePaul have no football programs.

Stanford placed No. 1 overall with 1,550.25 points, followed by Ohio State, California-Berkeley, Florida, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Texas A&M, Florida State and Oklahoma.
