As labor disputes threaten to wipe out the next professional football and basketball seasons, it’s time to consider other viewing options.

With any luck, one of the billion cable channels will decide to bring back The Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, canceled in June by Comedy Central.

Macdonald, the former Saturday Night Live Weekend Update anchor, sat at a desk and did a 23-minute sportscast that mocked all that needed to be mocked.

His brand of humor isn’t for everybody. For example, the humorless won’t find him funny because they aren’t happy unless they’re angry.

Macdonald packs a politically incorrect punch and because of that does far more to expose and ridicule the ridiculous stereotypes that created political correctness in the first place.

A sampling from one May episode of The Sports Show with Norm Macdonald:

“After public accusation, Laker guard Shannon Brown tweeted this weekend that he did not sleep with teammate Pau Gasol’s girlfriend. You know, how come if a guy goes on Twitter to say that he didn’t sleep with another guy’s girlfriend, it makes you think, ‘Hey, I bet that guy slept with that other guy’s girlfriend?’ “

Macdonald stayed with the Lakers, who didn’t have the decency to put personal feuds aside and send Phil Jackson out a winner: “With the Lakers out of the playoffs, Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom will be spending a lot more time together, which has inspired Lamar’s new fragrance, ‘Kill Me Now.’ “

As a video of a famous skateboarder zipping down a thin railing played, Macdonald commented, “Seattle, Washington, Nyja Houston, so difficult and so very, very uninteresting.”

Naturally, Macdonald weighed in on Michael Jordan’s bizarre facial-hair choice for his Hanes Underwear commercial.

“I am certainly not the first one to point this out,” Macdonald said. “As a matter of fact, if you google ‘Hitler mustache,’ Michael Jordan appears on the first page. Let’s get to the bottom of this. The question is, ‘What did Hanes know about Jordan’s Hitler mustache and when did they know it?’ “

Macdonald put forth the possibility Hanes didn’t know about it until Jordan showed up for the shoot.

“The director sees Michael for the first time and he says to himself, ‘Good Lord, his upper lip is sporting the most universally recognized symbol of evil ever known to man. Oh well, we’ll work around it.’ “

Elsewhere, Charles Barkley, who called Jordan’s mustache, “one of the stupidest things I’ve seen in a long time,” pointed out that it proves how much bigger a star Jordan is because nobody hesitates to critique Barkley’s appearance when he shows up for a commercial.

If the NBA shuts down into the season, Macdonald might want to team with Barkley on a show that could make everyone forget about the lockout.
