Area Roundup: Baldwin boys lose in final

? Three games in a 26-hour period weren’t enough to slow down the Bonner Springs High boys basketball team Saturday.

After winning two games Friday, the Braves came back to play in the Baldwin Invitational Tournament championship, defeating host Baldwin for the second straight season in the title game, 60-41.

Justin Vander Tuig led Baldwin with 10 points. Vander Tuig and Chad Berg were named to the all-tournament team.

Tonganoxie 62, Blue Valley Southwest 46

Tonganoxie — In spite of some below-average shooting, Tonganoxie was able to hustle its way to a fifth-place finish at its own tourney.

The Chieftains missed 33 shot attempts but still defeated Blue Valley Southwest (1-10) by getting more than half of their points via turnovers and offensive rebounds.

Jeremy Carlisle scored 24 points for Tonganoxie.

Oskaloosa 61, McLouth 59

McLouth — Adam Bowser scored 26 points for the Bears in the McLouth Invitational Tournament.

Girls

Tonganoxie 43, Eudora 26

Tonganoxie — The Chieftains rode a supreme defensive effort to a victory against Eudora in the Tonganoxie Invitational seventh-place game, snapping their six-game losing skid.

THS (3-7) forced Eudora (3-10) into 21 turnovers and pestered the Cardinals enough on defense to hold EHS to 17.9 percent shooting from the floor (7-for-39).

Though Eudora sophomore Valerie Pringle scored a game-high 15 points, Cassie Roberts was the Cardinals’ second-leading scorer with five and no one else had more than two points against the stingy THS defense.

No one for Tonganoxie scored in double figures, but it didn’t matter because of the Chieftains’ balance — Jenny Whitledge scored nine points, Haley Smith had eight, Tavia Brown and Emma Stilgenbauer put up six apiece and Danielle Miller added five.

Baldwin 63, Osawatomie 38

Baldwin City — Baldwin had to dwell on its loss to Spring Hill for eight days before taking the court again.

After having their game with Osawatomie postponed on Thursday, the Bulldogs routed the Trojans on Saturday.

All three BHS seniors scored in double figures. Ramie Burkhart led the team with 16 points. Allison Howard and Myranda Behrens added 14 and 13 points apiece.
