Snow causes Kansas Legislators to delay planned trips to visit to state’s Army forts

? Heavy snow that covered much of northeast Kansas has caused legislators to cancel two planned trips to the state’s Army posts.

Fort Riley’s 1st Infantry Division was scheduled Thursday to formally unfurl its flag after its headquarters returned from a yearlong deployment to southern Iraq. The division was responsible for coordinating the transition of authority to local Iraqi leaders as U.S. forces prepare to leave the country.

At Fort Leavenworth, legislators were to hear from officials about simulations designed to help first responders and the military conduct a variety of operations.

Legislators carried out a modified work load in the Statehouse, with most of the regularly scheduled committee meetings canceled in anticipation of the trips.
