Dodge City prepares to open United Wireless Arena and Magouirk Conference Center

? After 14 years of planning, Dodge City is nearly ready to unveil its new special events center.

The media was invited to tour the United Wireless Arena and Magouirk Conference Center on Thursday for a first look at the $40.3 million arena. The Dodge City Daily Globe reports that some final touches are being done, but the center is expected to be ready for an open house on Feb. 12.

The center has 4,200 seats for sports events, can add about 4,500 seats for concerts and has 10,000 square feet of meeting space.

The center is one of several venues known as the “Why Not Dodge?” projects, which are funded by a special city and county sales tax.

The Iowa-based company VenuWorks will manage the center.
