Area roundup: Perry-Lecompton girls hold on

— Madison Hess scored a team-high 12 points, helping Perry-Lecompton to a 34-32 high school girls basketball victory over Hiawatha on Friday night.

Perry-Lecompton led 15-2 after the first-quarter, holding off Hiawatha after that for its second straight win.

Natasha Carver also added double figures with 11 points.

The Kaws (2-5) will take on Royal Valley on Tuesday.

Oskaloosa 50, Doniphan West 31

Oskaloosa — Haley Pfau and Hailey Kelly 20 scored points apiece for Oskaloosa.

Prairie View 47, Wellsville 21

Wellsville — Shambre’ Koehn led Wellsville with 11 points.

Baldwin 56, Louisburg 44

Baldwin City — Allison Howard scored 13 points and Kailyn Smith added 11 for Baldwin (6-1).

The teams shot a combined 48 free throws. BHS as 24-for-34 from the free-throw line to avenge its only loss of the season.


Tonganoxie 63, Mill Valley 55

Tonganoxie — The Tonganoxie boys couldn’t hold onto a slim halftime lead.

The Chieftains led, 29-27, at intermission before getting outscored, 36-26, in the second half.

Dylan Scates led Tonganoxie with 16 points, while Dane Erickson added 12.

Tongie (2-4) will play K.C. Turner on Tuesday.

McLouth 46, Horton 42, OT

McLouth — McLouth held Horton to single-digit scoring in each quarter — nine points each quarter, to be exact — then won with a 10-6 edge in overtime.

Doniphan West 58, Oskaloosa 54

Oskaloosa — Adam Bowser and Levi Wade each scored 19 points, but Oskaloosa was held to one field goal and five total points in the fourth quarter.

Louisburg 46, Baldwin 37

Baldwin City — A late six-minute drought doomed the Bulldogs.

Justin Vander Tuig led Baldwin (3-3) with 15 points. BHS will travel Tuesday to Ottawa.
