Expert on Jewish studies in China to speak at KU

An expert on Jewish Studies in China will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Spencer Museum of Art auditorium, 1301 Miss.

Xu Xin, director of the Glazer Institute for Jewish Studies at Nanjing University, is a current fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. His lecture at Kansas University is “The Jewish Presence in China: 13th Century to the Present,” and is free and open to the public.

He was a curator for China’s first exhibit on the Holocaust and also produced the 900-page Chinese edition of the “Encyclopedia Judaica.”

“I want them to understand how Chinese are interested in Jews by the Judaic practices in China,” Xu said.

Xu’s visit is sponsored by the KU Center for East Asian Studies, the department of religious studies and the KU Jewish Studies Program.
