From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 10, 1986:

• The Lawrence school board was expected to vote to approve the city’s first school bond election in 20 years. If approved, the bonds would pay for additions at Kennedy and Schwegler schools as well as new-school construction northeast of 15th and Wakarusa.
• The Holcom Recreation Center Foundation had so far received about $180,000 in gifts and pledges. The fund drive had been expected to end formally this week, but since the foundation was still short of its $500,000 goal, the fundraising would continue.
• A woman who had been sentenced to one to two years at the Douglas County Jail was also 8 1/2 months pregnant. The 27-year-old, who had been imprisoned after pleading no contest to one count of forgery, was to be rushed to Lawrence Memorial Hospital upon going into labor. Sheriff Rex Johnson said that he didn’t know of any instances of babies born in the jail, and added, “Let’s say we don’t want to have one.”
