25 years ago: Postal deliveries go smoothly this season

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 25, 1986:

Lawrence Postmaster Bill Reynolds, having now spent his first Christmas season in his new job, said that the holiday rush had gone very well for the local post office. He attributed part of the smoothness of the season to the good weather conditions in Lawrence and in much of the rest of the country. “The airlines have been able to keep flying without many delays,” he said. “Even with the heavy fog we’ve had the past few days, everything’s been able to get through.” He added that the Lawrence post office usually had a slightly slower Christmas schedule than many cities, as the local volume always decreased a great deal when the Kansas University students left town for the holiday.
