KU music student to play with Yo-Yo Ma

Three young musicians will get a chance to learn from world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma when he visits Kansas City next month to appear at the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

Students from Kansas University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Park University will participate in a special master class with Ma. Students in master classes typically perform a piece once, then play it again after hearing advice from the master.

One of the students picked for the opportunity is Hyerim Jeon, who is pursuing a doctorate in musical arts from the Kansas University. She says she couldn’t believe her eyes when she received the invitation.

Ma’s three performances of the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Kansas City Symphony are sold out.
