From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 16, 1971:

Preparations were nearly complete for the Girl Scout Parade of Carols, scheduled to take place at 7:30 tonight. “Rudolph,” a horse belonging to a member of Mounted Girl Scout Troop 673, was to lead the way while wearing antlers and a blinking-light nose. Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and an elf were to share a float with the Mariner Girl Scouts, and the carolers were to be accompanied by a bugle and a lyre. About 875 Girl Scouts were expected to gather before the parade at Eighth and Vermont where they would officially present canned goods and clothing donations to the Emergency Service Council. The mounted members of Troop 673, with Rudolph and “more conventionally attired horses,” were to carry the colors in the parade, followed by two floats of caroling Mariner Scouts and a marching contingent of Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes.
