From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 15, 1986:

The author of a regular column on personal computers recommended several gift ideas. One was “an inexpensive 1200-BAUD modem” listing at $149. The U.S. Robotics “Sportster 1200” offered two speeds, 300 and 1200 bits per second. Another was “Super Duper,” a “small but wonderful little program” that copied disks “much faster than MS-DOS’s DISKCOPY utility — up to 2.5 faster (20 seconds for a disk).” Infocom was selling a computer game called “Leather Goddesses of Phobos,” and Electronic Arts had just released the DOS-based “Starflight,” which offered the chance to explore an electronic universe for only $49.45.

Many Lawrence residents did not yet own a personal computer, and a store called “I.B.EmClone Computers” located at 724 N. 2nd was here to assist them. A computer system equipped with 640K ram, monochrome monitor, and MS DOS 3.2 was available for the “everyday low price” of $999.99.
