A first appearance has been set for a youth who is accused of attacking a fellow McLouth High School student last month in the school parking lot. The youth is charged with battery, according to documents provided to the victim’s father by the county attorney’s office in Jefferson County. An official with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office declined to release information about the incident because it involved juveniles. And the person handling the case in the county attorney’s office is not available until Monday, an official said. The victim’s father said his daughter’s nose was broken and surgery is planned later this month to repair it. McLouth Superintendent Steve Splichal confirmed an incident occurred in November and Principal Mike Bogard investigated it and then turned it over to local authorities.

Splichal said “consequences were in accordance with school policy and the student code of conduct” but declined to discuss the situation further. The victim’s father said the incident occurred after his daughter had participated in the Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11 in Leavenworth with the school’s marching band. The incident occurred at his daughter’s vehicle after the band returned to McLouth, he said. The suspect’s first appearance is Monday in the Jefferson County Courthouse in Oskaloosa.
