Foundation donates $150,000 to KU med school’s Salina campus

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation, of Logan, will donate $150,000 to provide support for scholarships, facilities and equipment at Kansas University’s School of Medicine-Salina campus.

The Salina campus opened this fall with its first class of eight first-year medical students.

“A significant portion of the gift will be used for much-needed improvements in our medical school building and for the purchase of classroom equipment,” said William Cathcart-Rake, director of the Salina campus, in a written statement. “The remainder will be used for scholarship support for students enrolled on the Salina campus of KU School of Medicine who express a preference for practicing medicine in northwest Kansas.”

The school is housed in space provided by Salina Regional Health Center. The gift will count toward Far Above: The Campaign for Kansas, scheduled for a public kickoff in April 2012.
