40 years ago: County finalizes contract with Cottonwood

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 3, 1971:

Douglas County Commissioners this morning had taken action to finalize a $20,000 contract with Cottonwood, Inc., to provide services and diagnostic evaluation for county residents with developmental disabilities. Cottonwood, Inc., which had begun construction of a new facility at the end of November, was to absorb and expand the services of the Bess Stone Activity Center, 745 Ohio. Executive Director Gary Condra said that he hoped the new building would be opened in April, 1971.
