Lawrence woman, 20, given probation for her role in robbery at Walmart

A Douglas County judge sentenced a 20-year-old Lawrence woman to serve 18 months on probation Thursday for her role in a 2010 robbery at Walmart, 3300 Iowa.

Billie Jessup, who pleaded no contest in October to aiding a felon, faces an 18-month prison sentence if she violates her probation. Jessup was initially charged with serving as a lookout for the Dec. 13, 2010, robbery, but she pleaded to knowingly harboring a person with the intent she would help them escape arrest.

Two co-defendants, Lonnie S. Schaefer, 23, and William O. Patterson, 19, have been convicted in the robbery. Patterson, who is serving a sentence of just less than five years in prison, admitted he pointed a plastic BB gun at clerks in the store and taking money. Schaefer was also sentenced to serve 32 months in prison for recruiting co-defendants to help serve as lookouts and distribute proceeds from the robbery to them.

Four other people have been charged with serving as lookouts.
