Brown vs. Board of Education foundation complies with order to vacate National Park site
Topeka ? A foundation that tells the story of the Brown v. Board of Education school desegregation has complied with a demand that it leave a National Park site housed in a former segregated school.
The head of the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka said the foundation moved out over the weekend in advance of a Thursday deadline.
The foundation is led by Cheryl Brown Henderson, a daughter of the named plaintiff in the landmark case. She led the National Park site briefly last year before returning to the foundation job.
A federal investigation showed the park job posed a conflict of interest because Brown Henderson failed to limit her foundation involvement.
Federal officials are now reviewing the results of an audit into the foundation’s finances.
