Arkansas prospect to visit KU on Sept. 24

Archie Goodwin, the No. 12-rated prospect in the college basketball recruiting class of 2012, told Rivals.com on Tuesday he will attend Kansas University’s Sept. 24 Legends of the Phog alumni game as part of an official campus visit.

Goodwin, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound senior shooting guard from Sylvan High in Little Rock, Ark., said he would visit Kentucky for its Midnight Madness event in mid-October.

The No. 2-rated shooting guard in the class (behind Ricardo Ledo, 6-5, Notre Dame High, Fitchburg, Mass.) has a final list of KU, Arkansas, Kentucky, Baylor, Florida, Memphis, Georgetown and Missouri. The country’s top prospect, Shabazz Muhammad, a 6-6 senior from Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas, also will visit UK for Midnight Madness, according to catsillustrated.com. Muhammad has also said he plans on visiting KU at a yet-to-be-determined date. He has set an in-home visit with KU coach Bill Self for Sept. 14.

Goodwin and Muhammad are both expected to wait until April to sign with a school.

ESPN’s Paul Biancardi this summer had this to say about Goodwin after watching him at the AAU Super Showcase in Florida: “He continues to score at a rapid pace and help his team win games. Contact doesn’t faze him as he constantly attacks the basket off the bounce and often finds himself at the free-throw line. He is like a freight train in transition using his strength, power and dribble to get wherever he wants. He dominates with the dribble drive, but must continue to work on his jumper and free throw shooting because he can make a living at the line. Plus, he has been begging to make point guard-type plays with the ball in his hands.”

Future KU player Conner Frankamp, a 6-0 junior from Wichita North, jumped from No. 65 to No. 51 in Rivals.com’s new Class of 2013 rankings.

ESPN.com’s Chad Ford’s ranked KU junior Thomas Robinson No. 10 in his list of the top 100 prospects for the 2012 NBA Draft. Kentucky’s Anthony Davis is No. 1, North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes No. 2, followed by UConn’s Andre Drummond, UNC’s James McAdoo, Baylor’s Perry Jones, Florida’s Brad Beal, Baylor’s Quincy Miller, Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger and Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. KU senior Tyshawn Taylor is No. 54.
