Police arrest Lawrence man on warrant in connection with July downtown battery case

Lawrence police Tuesday afternoon arrested a 22-year-old Lawrence man on an aggravated battery warrant after he was accused of punching and injuring a Kansas University student July 1 while in downtown Lawrence.

The victim in the case, a 24-year-old male KU student, alleged the suspect “sucker-punched” him in the face at 2 a.m. after he had left and was standing outside It’s Brothers, 1105 Mass. The victim said he went Lawrence Memorial Hospital that night, and he suffered a broken nose.

According to Douglas County Jail records, police arrested the suspect Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of aggravated battery. He posted $5,000 bond shortly after he was booked and was given notice to appear in court at 3 p.m. Sept. 13. Douglas County prosecutors could file formal charges before then. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
