25 years ago: Plans for Brandon Woods moving forward
From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 30, 1986:
- Plans were moving forward for a new retirement center in southwestern Lawrence. The Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission had recommended approval of a use permit and the final plat for the 9.75-acre site for the Brandon Woods Retirement Complex.
- A summer book fair program conducted in all Dillon grocery stores not only had encouraged people to read, but had also resulted in a gift for the Lawrence Public Library. Profits from the book sales, totaling $729.57, had been presented to Wayne Mayo, library director.
- A cold front moving through Lawrence had dropped temperatures to a record low of 45 degrees, breaking the old mark for this date and ranking as the third coldest August night ever recorded in Lawrence.
