Napa, Calif. ? Jason Campbell is as eager as anybody to find out more about Terrelle Pryor and how the Oakland Raiders plan to use the former Ohio State quarterback.

Those answers didn’t come Tuesday.

The Raiders are hoping they’ll come soon enough.

While Campbell returned to the practice field for the first time since a jarring hit to the helmet, Pryor was nowhere to be found at Raiders camp. Pryor can’t practice until he’s under contract, and he had yet to even travel to the West Coast by the time the team ended practice in the evening.

New coach Hue Jackson was optimistic that Oakland would reach a deal by the end of the week with Pryor, whom the team selected in the third round of the NFL’s supplemental draft on Monday.

“You don’t know what we’re really going to do with him yet,” said Campbell. “He’s definitely a big, fast guy. There are different things you can do with him. He’s a teammate now. We welcome him. We just go out here and do what we can to help the team win.”

Pryor will have plenty of catching up to do whenever he arrives.

He has missed three weeks of training camp, two preseason games and countless meetings. Pryor gave up his final season with the Buckeyes after an investigation into the team’s memorabilia-for-cash scandal cost coach Jim Tressel his job.

When he was allowed to enter the supplemental draft, he was handed a five-game suspension by Commissioner Roger Goodell — the same number of games he would have sat out had he returned to Ohio State. Pryor has said he will not appeal the suspension.

Miami signs Larry Johnson

Davie, Fla. — For one-time workhorse Larry Johnson, the handoffs stopped coming nearly a year ago. He says he learned his lesson waiting for another chance to carry the ball.

Johnson signed Tuesday with the Miami Dolphins and said he knows he must quickly make a good impression, including off the field, where repeated missteps derailed his career.

Johnson sat out most of 2010 after being released by the Washington Redskins last September. He twice made the Pro Bowl and has career rushing totals of 6,221 yards and 55 scores, but his most recent touchdown came in 2008.

He was drafted in the first round by Kansas City in 2003, and his time there was marred by off-field problems, including two suspensions in his final 12 months with the team. The Chiefs released him in 2009 after he posted a gay slur on his Twitter account and questioned the competence of coach Todd Haley.

Busch loses drivers license

Statesville, N.C. — NASCAR points leader Kyle Busch lost his driver’s license for 45 days on Tuesday for driving 128 mph on a road close to a day-care center and church in a nearly $400,000 car.

Busch, who doesn’t need a license to compete in NASCAR, also was fined $1,000, sentenced to 30 hours of community service and put on one year of unsupervised probation. He pleaded guilty to speeding and no contest to reckless and careless driving in North Carolina District Court in Iredell County.

Busch again apologized for driving 128 mph in a 45 mph zone in a bright yellow 2012 Lexus on May 24.

The hand-built LFA sports car was on loan to Busch from Lexus for a 24-hour test drive.

D-backs trade Johnson to Jays

Phoenix — The Arizona Diamondbacks traded struggling second baseman Kelly Johnson to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, picking up second basemen Aaron Hill and John McDonald in return.

Irish name Crist as top QB

South Bend, Ind. — Notre Dame has picked senior Dayne Crist as the starting quarterback.

Irish coach Brian Kelly announced the decision on Tuesday and said it was a difficult choice between Crist and Tommy Rees, “but one I was excited to make.” He said he expects Crist, who has had two major knee injuries since 2008, to start all 13 games.

Trophy to be redone … again

Johnston, Iowa — The new trophy designed for the winner of the annual Iowa-Iowa State gridiron showdown was scrapped Tuesday as organizers acknowledged it had too much to do with corn and not nearly enough to do with football.

The Cy-Hawk Trophy was redesigned this year after complaints that the old one — a simple bronze statue of a football and a player — was a bit dated.

With the Iowa Corn Growers Association as the new sponsor of the series between Iowa State’s Cyclones and Iowa’s Hawkeyes, the new trophy was drawn up as a farm family huddled around a bushel of corn. The design was a nod to the state’s deep agricultural roots.

A temporary trophy will be designed for this year’s game on Sept. 10. Fans will be able to suggest a design for the more permanent replacement.

Oregon RB transfers to Baylor

Waco, Texas — Former Oregon running back Lache Seastrunk is transferring to Baylor.

Baylor announced Tuesday that Seastrunk signed a financial aid contract, will enroll in the university and will join the football team. Classes begin Monday.

It was unclear when the 5-foot-9, 190-pound Seastrunk — who red-shirted as a freshman last season — would be eligible to play for the Bears, whose season opener is Sept. 2 at home against No. 14 TCU.
