KU student accused of stalking woman

A Kansas University Public Safety officer arrested a 25-year-old Lawrence man Wednesday accused of stalking a 19-year-old female KU student, Capt. Schuyler Bailey said.

Bailey said the alleged stalking had been ongoing since July, and it involved sending email messages and other forms of contact. The suspect had been warned to stop, but he was arrested after she reported the stalking continued.

Bailey said the two had no past relationship. According to Douglas County Jail records, the man was arrested about 11:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Anna Drive, which is in the Stouffer Place apartment complex on campus.

Bailey said both the suspect and alleged victim are KU students.

The man was still in jail held on the stalking charge Wednesday as Douglas County prosecutors said they likely would file formal charges Thursday. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
