Johns Creek, Ga. ? Gary Woodland never solved the mystery that was the finishing 18th hole, but he did get off to a great start in Sunday’s final round of the PGA.

Woodland, a Topeka native and former Kansas University golfer, birdied the first two holes on his way to a 68, which put him in a seven-way tie for 12th place at 1-under par. Woodland carded four birdies and a bogey in shooting a 32 on the front and had two bogeys and a birdie for a 36 on the back. He again bogeyed No. 18 and was 5-over par on it for the tournament. He was 3-under par on the 551-yard, par 5 No. 12 during the tournament.

Woodland earned $132,786 to push his season winnings to $2,840,349, good for 13th on the money list. Not a rookie but competing in his first full, injury-free season, Woodland was one of four golfers in the world to finish in the top 30 in all four majors. Charl Schwartzel and Steve Stricker, who also tied for 12th in the PGA, and Ryan Palmer, who tied for 19th, were the others.
